I had the great honour of being interviewed in a natural deodorants podcast by Greg Foot on Sliced Bread, Radio 4 . He was asked about the safety of antiperspirants and in particular Aluminium so he started investigating about it, getting in touch with a few experts.
He interviewed a dermatologist to explain the biology and function behind sweat as well as the difference between antiperspirants and deodorants. Antiperspirants block the sweat glands via a jelly plug via Aluminium Chlorohydrate, whereas deodorants work via antimicrobials and disguising the bad odour.
He asked me about what natural deodorants contain and if they work, so I invited him to be curious by doing a simple test to compare the antiperspirant he usually use versus Wild deodorant. Wild was applied on the left armpit and the antiperspirant was applied on the left. He went for his workout and asked a few mates to smell his armpits and choose the armpit that looked the wettest It was very interesting to hear about the results, irrespectively of the simple test conditions. Natural deodorants can be effective!
